“Aloha” is a tribute to a truly remarkable real-life adventurer: Aloha Wanderwell. Great name, right? As a teenager in the 1920s, she joined a travel expedition and became the first woman to circumnavigate the globe by car in a Ford Model T. Along the way, she learned how to ride and work on motorcycles, fly airplanes, and operate movie cameras, releasing her films for a public hungry to learn more about the world.
This painting was completed for Gallery Nucleus’ POWER IN NUMBERS 5 show, and was inspired by falling down a rabbit hole and learning about a fascinating woman with a unique true story. It felt appropriate to represent her in the bright, vibrant colors and playful shapes I enjoy using in my work.
